Further to our announcement earlier today regarding the suspension of Saturday graded racing at Muzz, Balmoral is suspending ALL club activities, including our Tuesday morning club ride, Tuesday morning junior training, Thursday night track training and Saturday morning Junior Development. This difficult decision has been made after consideration of the positions taken by Cycling Australia and Cycling Queensland, recent and emerging evidence from public health authorities, and a desire to be proactive in helping the broader community minimise the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank our members and the broader cycling community for their understanding and support, and look forward to engaging with you all in novel ways over the coming months. ... See more
Notice re Racing at Muzz & COVID-19. Weekly racing at Murarrie is now suspended. In light of the advice from Cycling Queensland, Balmoral CC will cancel our racing and Saturday junior development program until further notice. We applaud and support CQ's consultative approach in coming to this decision and acknowledge the very difficult decision our friends at Logan CC have made with respect to their flagship SSS event. We will continue to monitor advice from Qld Health and will review our other club activities in due course. http://ow.ly/oJ4d50yNsbR ... See more

Our regular Tuesday morning junior training session will not be conducted at Murarrie tomorrow morning due to issues with the circuit. Please check our Balmoral Juniors FB group for details of the alternative arrangements.
Today we were forced to cancel racing due to issues with our criterium circuit. Apologies to everyone that made the trip to Muzz on a nice sunny day to find us not racing. 😢 We had three main issues today: - flowing water has led to dangerous edges. - large amounts of mud have been deposited on the track. (The track was still slippery after it was removed. ) - Standing water was 10-15cm deep in places. Even with a team of helpful junior parents this wasn't able to be adequately cleared. The pictures below were taken after a significant effort to clear the debris was abandoned. We will endeavour to get these issues fixed with the BCC as soon as possible as they effect recreational usage of the circuit as well as racing. Thanks for your understanding. ... See more

It's always rewarding when the club gets to work in some of our core business. Thanks to a Queensland Sport and Recreation "Get Clubs Going" grant, we're able to provide loan equipment for riders to get into track cycling. We've two new small track bikes and a bunch of new spares to get our old bikes back in service. We're especially happy with the narrow bars for our smallest riders. Special thanks also to Hillbrick Bicycles, Kotavelo and Kirrawee Cycles for helping us out with discounts and shipping. Thanks to all the committed members who helped get the grant application together and who continue to volunteer to allow us to continue our unique track program. It's fantastic to be able to provide an entry to track cycling without the need to purchase a bike. Details of our track program are here: http://balmoralcyclingclub.com.au/track-training-racing/ ... The Balmoral Cycling Club Management Committee has been following the AusCycling initiative over the last year and we've considered the proposal’s benefits and risks, along with engaging with many stakeholders across cycling. At our regular monthly meeting on Wednesday night (6 Nov), a vote was unanimously passed to support the initiative. Balmoral Cycling Club will vote to support AusCycling at the Cycling Queensland SGM on 16 Nov. The committee felt that the proposal would benefit both our club and cycling in general. The initiative is not without risk, and we won't expect immediate benefits, but we are convinced that this is the right path for Balmoral, and for all forms of cycling in Queensland and Australia. Balmoral looks forward to contributing to the success of AusCycling. ... See more
Balmoral has had a long term commitment to supporting junior development and the transition to Elite and team based racing. At an Elite level, our primary investment has been through the highly successful Balmoral Elite Team - our 2020 team was announced yesterday. An area where we’ve been keen to improve though, is that of Women’s racing. A highlight of the 2019 season has been the development & performance of both SCODY Racing pb Galibier Partners and The Women's Racing Project. Balmoral members Hayley Jones & Alex Quirk have played instrumental roles with these teams respectively, which has been fantastic to see. It’s therefore with great pleasure to announce that Balmoral will be supporting both teams in 2020 through the provision of start-up funding. Both teams will retain full autonomy in terms of rider selection and team management - we’re just pleased to help them on their way in 2020 and contribute to women’s cycling. On behalf of the Balmoral Cycling Club, congratulations, and we look forward to the 2020 season! Andy Moore, President ... See more
