Racing at Muzz
On most Saturday mornings of the year, we hold criterium racing at Muzz. Men and women race together in all grades (A, B, C, D and Masters) unless we stipulate a change in format, like when we offer women’s only racing every few weeks. We aim to provide safe and competitive racing opportunities for all levels of riders.
Only experienced U15-U17 juniors who have met the requirements of our Junior Development Policy and have been approved by our Club Coach and Club Handicapper are allowed to race in senior grades at Muzz, and must comply with AusCycling Technical Regulations, including rollout.
We don’t race on days when there is a silver level/open event within 100km of Muzz, or on days when rain makes it dangerous to race. You can find these notifications on our Facebook Page, Facebook Group and Instagram.

Gradings
To race with us you must hold an AusCycling Race licence/membership (e.g. Race All Discipline or Four Week Free Trial) and have a Balmoral CC grading. You can get this by completing our grading form. If you are new to racing you will be graded in D grade until you can demonstrate the skills to progress.
Our Club gradings are designed so that all men and women riders can be competitive in their grade. Contact our Club Handicapper if this is not the case for you.
You can check your current Muzz grading here.
Men and women riders over 40 years old, with an AusCycling race category of MMAS3/WMAS3 or higher, can nominate to race in our Masters grades or race their regular club grade. Riders opt-in to race this category knowing that it will have a mixture of abilities present each week.
When we offer Women’s-only racing, women riders will need to select Women_AB or Women_CD to enter those races, and not their regular club grade.
Juniors participating in JD don’t need to obtain a grading, but do need an AusCycling membership. See our Junior Development Policy for detailed information about our junior program, including criteria for progression through junior and open graded racing at Muzz.

Race Course and Direction
The new criterium track at the Brisbane International Cycle Park allows us to offer 4 different options for racing:
- OG-Muzz outer circuit clockwise
- OG-Muzz outer circuit anti-clockwise (reverse)
- U-Muzz inner U-shaped circuit clockwise
- U-Muzz inner U-shaped circuit anti-clockwise (reverse)
When we race in a clockwise direction – pin your race number on your right ribs. When we race in an anti-clockwise direction – pin your race number on your left ribs. Numbers must be visible to the Commissaires from the side.
How to Register
To race at Muzz you need to register through Entry Boss before 5:00pm Friday night. You can’t just turn up on the day and race.
If you haven’t raced with us before, please register early and submit your grading form by 5:00pm the Thursday before you want to race, to give our volunteers plenty of time to address any grading or licence issues.
Our entry fees are: $10 for Balmoral CC members, $15 for non-members, $10 for juniors racing senior crit grades, and $5 for JD.
On Saturday morning registration opens approximately 30mins before each race. You’ll need to “sign-in” and collect your race number at least 10mins before your race start. Be ready to marshal for your race at least 10mins before your race start. You must attend the Commissaire’s race briefing before your race.
All participants are required to agree to our Terms and Conditions.
Podiums
At the end of each race, we will recognise podium places to the first 3 riders and prime winners in each grade.
When we run mixed graded racing, we will recognise the first woman finisher in a race if there are 3 or more women starters in that race. Where there are more than 8 women in a race, we will hold a “race within a race” and also recognise the first 3 women riders in that race.
Riders should present themselves in race kit, closed shoes and without helmets or sunglasses. Podium photos will be posted on our Facebook Page and Group at the end of racing.
Prizes
With our return to Muzz we changing up the way we recognise final positions:
- We only offer prize money for A grade and Women’s A/B (or, when we only run mixed graded racing, the first 3 women finishers in A and/or B grade).
- In all other grades, those achieving a podium place or a prime will receive a free entry the next time they race with us (you can claim this by checking the volunteer box in EntryBoss, and include the race date, grade and position you’re claiming your free race for in the EntryBoss comments section).
When we pay prize money, we will pay it into your bank account. Contact our Club Treasurer at treasurer@balmoralcyclingclub.com.au to claim your prize money.
Scratchings, Cancellations & Refunds
At various times, we may need to cancel or postpone Muzz racing e.g. because of rain. Notifications will be made on our social media channels.
- Riders can self-scratch with full refund until the closing time. We close entries as late as is practical for our volunteers.
- If we postpone racing, we will carry forward entries to the new date. Entries will be re-opened and riders may choose to self-scratch with refund or participate on the new date.
- If we cancel racing, we will refund the full entry fee to to all registered riders.
- If we run racing, we will generally not refund a rider who does not participate for a reason outside of our control.
